The Mary McLeod Bethune School was completed in 1964 on West 134rd Street, New York to replace the previously existing Public School 119 on West 133nd Street, following a campaign led by school principal Dr Elliott S. Shapiro. It was commissioned by the Board of Education of the City of New York and the detailed plans were drawn up in the second half of 1962. This project was numbered A01 by Wang Chiu-Hwa.
