Architects Team 3 completed Ardmore Park, a three-hundred-unit residential development north of Singapore’s Orchard Road retail corridor, in 1977. The design’s three towers form a trefoil on a heavily landscaped site, which also includes a swimming pool, car parks, a putting green, and a clubhouse.

The towers themselves are made up of three hexagons arrayed around a central core; each hexagon typically contains one centrally air-conditioned three-bedroom apartment, an arrangement that maximises window space and multiplies views. (A penthouse occupies the top three floors of each tower.) The multifaceted motif reappears in interior columns and surface treatments. On the exterior, a pattern of alternating rectangular and rounded windows defines each floor. Set against the towers’ white facades, the dark openings stretch around each tower’s edges, masking their angles and creating a pop-like visual effect.

Ardmore Park’s generous floor plans, high-end interiors, and associated amenities are an example of a total living environment planned for an increasingly affluent city. The project exemplified a new kind of high-rise dwelling in Singapore, as an equally spacious substitute for the bungalow typology. Once a defining element of the area’s skyline, Ardmore Park was demolished in 1997 to make way for another luxury tower complex that now occupies the site.
