In Chorus, a pair of feet with faces painted on each of the wiggling toes . Without the Communist Party, There Would Be No New China, a song that celebrates the founding of the Communist Party of China. The patriotic toes give a humorous account of how the party articulates collective identity and promotes its ideology.

Often working with video, photography, and installation, her work examines linguistic structures, historical tropes, and relationships between humans and objects. Kan has participated in many important exhibitions worldwide, including the 55th La Biennale di Venezia (2013) and the 4th Seoul International Media Art Biennial (2006).
