Jes Fan scans and 3D-prints his leg muscles using resin in a way that resembles agarwood branches. Agarwood is an endangered incense tree native to Hong Kong—a traditional trading hub for incense whose name also translates to ’Fragrant Harbour’—and produces a precious, fragrant resin only at sites of injury or infection. Echoing Picasso, who moulds the body into endless figurative shapes, Fan manipulates his own body through these biomorphic forms, with sites of trauma oozing glass globules.
