Li Yongbin creates videos that focus on the human face. Often using his own face as his subject, Li produces most of his works at home with simple equipment and techniques. Face 7 shows the presence of a child’s face emerging from flames. The face is distorted as the flame flickers. Soon, everything vanishes and the scene is left in total darkness. The sequence then begins again, and the face of the child repeatedly emerges and disintegrates. The duration and meditative rigour of Li’s work invite speculation on the nature of time and identity.
