In Jiu, a group of laboratory mice are subjected to a series of biological experiments. Xiao Yu conducts fertility tests, administers injections, and carries out physical examinations, presenting his research findings in statements such as ‘Its volume is very small’, ‘Its ability of propagation is strong’, ‘Its adaptability is great’, and ‘It will be the protagonist of the future’. By immersing the viewer in an unsettling world of ambiguous clinical trials, Jiu raises ethical questions about the practice of animal testing and the manipulation of biological life.
