Close-up scenes of cupping—an ancient form of Chinese medicine—open Lu Yang’s Lu YangDelusional Crime and Punishment. This visceral, corporeal imagery starkly contrasts with the narrative that subsequently unfolds: a 3D printing machine, labelled ‘HUMAN CREATOR’, prints human organs and skin. The final product is a humanoid form that resembles a gender-fluid digital avatar of Lu, which appears seemingly trapped within the machine’s flatbed. Mass-produced and packaged in boxes labelled ‘Made by God’, the avatar jumps between digital worlds. Lu’s nightmarish, multi-coloured mediascape was created in collaboration with the electronic musician GAMEFACE.
