This installation comprises abstract paintings that appear to be crawling up the wall like vines. There are also hand-carved sculptural towers that sit on stilted legs, and topographic constructions made of wood and cardboard that arise from the floor. These elements are skilfully juxtaposed to create an immersive yet imaginary micro-space that references the Mulan River area in the artists’ hometown. Filled with family photographs and iconography deeply associated with the local community and its rituals, this work opens a reflective journey into the artists’ personal and artistic explorations, which lie deeply within the cultural and regional history of China.
