Painted in 1973 at the height of the Cultural Revolution, My Name is PLA (Li Feng) portrays an optimistic young red guard. He is waving and seems to be heading towards a humble countryside hut in the background. The painting demonstrates that social realism was commonly adopted in Chinese propaganda art to praise the revolution, it delivers a positivism of the progressive social change and serves as a political tool to stabilise Mao’s regime as the revolution continued.
