In this series created in the early 2000s, Liu Jianhua depicts shapely qipao-clad female bodies using the techniques of traditional Chinese ceramics. The figures do not have heads or arms, making any emotion or personality indeterminable. The sexualised pieces symbolise the excess of consumerism and material desire as Liu satirises the commodification of art in society.
