Proud highlights Song Tao’s interest in the urban landscape and the individual’s place within it. The video opens with a view of a residential area of Pudong, Shanghai. The camera zooms in on a rooftop, where a group of young people strike heroic postures and hold a flag that flutters in the wind. Proud hints at a fantasy of urban youth and a loss of individuality in the rapidly transforming urban spaces of China in the early twenty-first century.
