Red A Silver Jubilee Exhibition 1967 Star Pavilion cup紅A牌1967年銀禧工展會星光館紀念杯
1967
This small, straight-sided plastic cup commemorates the 1967 Exhibition of Hong Kong Products, the twenty-fifth iteration of an event established in 1938 by the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association. Printed with a design that prominently displays the name of the manufacturer—Star Industrial—the cup also bears an image of the company’s pavilion at the exhibition, where manufacturers strove to impress potential clients with inventive architectural statements alongside their product lines.
In the post-war context of economic expansion and increasingly globalised trade, events like the Exhibition of Hong Kong Products were an important means of promoting the city as a centre of manufacturing consumer objects. Star Industrial was one of Hong Kong’s major producers of homewares from its founding in 1949, and was an active participant in the export boom. Still headquartered in Hong Kong, the company continues to produce numerous plastic wares.
