Firenze Lai’s whimsical portraits reveal the hidden dynamics between the human psyche and our environment. Often featuring isolated characters in contorted forms set against barren backdrops, Lai’s works adeptly explore the states of psychological distress experienced by individuals in today’s society. The gestural brushwork and suggestive compositions of Alignment (Park) and Starry Starry Room not only depict one’s relationship with oneself but also the tension that exists in attempting to balance individual freedoms and societal rules.
