The new image of Shanghai today Deport ment ABC今日上海新形象
1997
Consisting of instruction manuals and a performance, Shi Yong created this satirical work as a commentary on interpersonal exchanges brought about by progressive internationalisation in Shanghai during the 1990s. An adaptation of a tool book on self-promotion, the manuals were placed on music stands and served as a step-by-step guide on appropriate interpersonal behaviour and communication in the making of an international city. The instructions were critical yet hilarious, and were also carried out by the artist himself as a performance.
