An expressionless man in pyjamas stands in a concrete square while a puddle seeps out beneath his feet. These photographs record a seemingly ordinary situation with unknown implications, causing us to speculate if the water leaving the person’s body is a metaphor for the fading of life, dreams, hope, or time. Since 2000, Lu Chunsheng has been using photography to create conceptual works that explore states of life that are unquestionably real yet as strange as dreams.
