Ma Ke and Huishan Zhang in Conversation:
Fashion, Culture, and Identity
Internationally acclaimed fashion designers Ma Ke and Huishan Zhang will be in conversation to discuss the influence of their cultural roots on their creative practice.
As a cultural and social practice, fashion has always had the power to communicate personal identity and belonging. Since the resurgence of the Chinese fashion industry in the 1980s and the gradual breakthrough of Chinese fashion on the international stage, sartorial references to Chinese culture have been evolving. Internationally acclaimed fashion designers Ma Ke and Huishan Zhang will be in conversation to discuss the influence of their cultural roots on their creative practice. They will also share their personal journey in establishing their practice and the meaning of expressing cultural identity in their work.
The conversation will be moderated by Tanja Hwang-Cunz, former Associate Curator of Design and Architecture at M+, and held in English and Mandarin. Simultaneous interpretation in Cantonese, English, and Mandarin will be available.
Tickets to the special exhibition, Madame Song: Pioneering Art and Fashion in China, are available for purchase here.
