M+ Lars Nittve Keynote Lecture Series:
Imagining Museums of Modern Art with Glenn D. Lowry, Director of the Museum of Modern Art, New York
In this lecture, Glenn D. Lowry, the director of MoMA, will be in conversation with Suhanya Raffel about the theoretical framework of museums as institutions.
‘Imagining Museums of Modern Art’ builds upon two centuries of philosophies, strategies, and global perspectives to explore ways of presenting the art of our time. Theorist André Malraux’s musée imaginaire, a panoramic attempt to create an ideal museum, will serve as a point of departure to reconsider the idea of the art museum. As such, this talk will call for modern art museums to be understood in primarily conceptual terms as creative spaces that negotiate between abstract ideas and the concrete reality of works of art.
M+ Museum Director Suhanya Raffel will be joining the conversation with the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) director Glenn D. Lowry. The free talk will be livestreamed via the event page, Facebook, and YouTube. Simultaneous interpretation in Cantonese and Mandarin will be available.
Supported by The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Hong Kong, this event is part of the ‘M+ Lars Nittve Keynote Lecture Series’, which invites renowned artists and scholars to share insights on broader cultural ideas and topics.
