A Summer’s Tale
In the third film in Éric Rohmer’s ‘Tales of the Four Seasons’ series, a young man arrives at Dinard, a seaside resort destination in France. He meets a beautiful girl on the beach and feels an immediate connection. But he is actually waiting for his girlfriend to arrive while she has a long-distance boyfriend. Later, he meets another young woman, who might just be the one to brighten up to his sluggish mood. Sooner or later, the indecisive protagonist must reconcile with his attraction to all these women. light-hearted comedy takes aim at the melancholic young people and their awkward entanglements in the lush colours of a French summer. The film was edited by the Hong Kong-born Mary Stephen, a longtime collaborator of the French New Wave auteur.
The screening on 9 April will be followed by a talk with Mary Stephen in Cantonese.
