Every Bruce Was Kung Fu Fighting
Bruce Lee died days before Enter the Dragon (1973) was released in cinemas. A promising career was cut short when it was just about to peak. But the world was hungry for more—not just more kung fu films, but specifically, more Bruce Lee films. In death, Lee became a legend, a cultural phenomenon that has continued to spread despite his limited filmography.
The insatiable demand led to countless copycats, which gave rise to a genre of its own—Bruceploitation. Like many exploitation subgenres, these low-budget films often promise audiences a good time at the cinema, often through outrageous sex and violence. This oddity in film culture was once highly influential, converting many viewers into kung fu film fans before they even watched a real Bruce Lee film. For this special occasion, we explore this obscure yet entertaining genre with two grindhouse classics and one documentary that shed light on the people behind these films.
