Round geometric shapes have been a signature element of Pierre Cardin’s designs throughout his career. Inspired by the Space Age, Cardin
intensifi ed his experiments with sculptural cuts from the 1960s onwards and developed a distinctive futuristic aesthetic for which he is known to this day. This strapless dress, which is part of this evolution, was created in the late 1980s. It consists of a large circular panel supported by stiffened inserts at the front, completely transforming and reimagining the shape of the body.
