Evening dress 晚裝
1980–1987
Featured in the short film Beijing Love (2010), a homage to Song Huai-Kuei, this silk velvet dress has a high neck at the front and a sensual V-cut at the back, framed by a large taffeta ruffle. Decorated with three ribbon bows, the ruffle extends above the shoulders like wings. This intriguing combination of soft fabric with stiff sculptural detail is a recurring element in many of Pierre Cardin’s designs. The black evening gown beside this piece is another example. It features acollar that resembles a butterfly with folded wings.
