When Pierre Cardin came to China, he brought the full range of his fashion lines from ready-to-wear to haute couture designs, including this dress, which is representative of his extravagant evening wear of the 1980s. At the front, the dress is classic and elegant, but its sensual and seductive character is revealed when the wearer turns and shows the deep V-backline, a strong fashion statement in China at the time. An organza ruffle goes from the shoulders to the hem to form a cape, adding a dramatic touch to this extraordinary design.
