Sea Flowing Unstopping……Forms Floating Sinking……depicts an infinite and austere seascape. Hsu Yu-Jen’s signature dry-ink dashes crystalise into waves, splashes, and vapour along a vertical scroll, directing the eye beyond the visible. Hsu’s poetry, made up of repeated words and ellipses, blends into the painting’s foreground and echoes the cadence of his ink lines. The poem expresses a fatalistic view toward the perpetual changes of the sea and the fleeting of time. Together with the scattered, staccato lines, the painting encapsulates Hsu’s lyrical view of time, space, and being.
