tweed suit which emphasises her professional identity. Many of Cardin’s designs were created with working women in mind, and in addition to
his haute couture line, the designer launched his first ready-to-wear line as early as 1959 to make fashion accessible to a wider audience. However, this was considered outrageous among high-end fashion designers at the time. Cardin’s pioneering decision even led to his temporary expulsion from the French Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, one of the oldest and most prestigious associations for fashion professionals to this day.
