The workshop ticket will include same-day access to all galleries and exhibitions at M+. Please retain your ticket to facilitate your entry to the galleries.
Chinese artist collective, Yangjiang Group’s installation work, Calligraphy Peach Blossom Garden (2004), is a temporary garden made of calligraphic works, currently on view in M+ Sigg Collection: Inner Worlds.
With the Lunar New Year approaching, M+ is delighted to welcome Yangjiang Group to the museum for an artist sharing session. The collective will introduce their work in the gallery and guide participants through an experimental calligraphy experience at the Learning Hub.
From an overview of the historical evolution of calligraphy to basic techniques of calligraphy, the artists will be sharing their practice and insights of creating as a collective. Participants will be invited to explore their own style and collaborate with others to complete a collective calligraphic work. Get ready to engage in an expressive, freeform calligraphy experience as participants’ works are transformed into a collective installation.
No prior knowledge of calligraphy is required.
About the Artist
Yangjiang Group (founded 2002, Yangjiang) is an artist collective formed by Zheng Guogu (born 1970, Yangjiang), Chen Zaiyan (born 1971, Yangchun), and Sun Qinglin (born 1971, Yangjiang). The trio are known for reappropriating Chinese calligraphy by incorporating daily actions and processes into large-scale installations and photographs that subvert the established rules and controlled conditions of contemporary artistic practice.
