How can art foster self-compassion and awareness during life changes?

‘Slow Looking Tour: From Art to Self’ is a collaborative event presented by M+ and the Hong Kong Council of Social Service (HKCSS), as part of ‘Compassionate Festival 2026’. Through this programme, we invite you to immerse yourself in art for a moment of pause and self-care.

Within the museum’s unique architectural spaces, M+ Educators will guide participants through a grounding practice focused on breath and body awareness, creating a moment to slow down, relax, and return to the present.

Prompted by slow-looking approaches, participants will engage with two selected artworks on a deeper level, exploring how artists respond to life’s challenges, navigate change, and express emotions through creative practice. Through group discussion and reflective sharing, you will discover diverse perspectives and feelings, cultivating greater self-compassion and empathy for others.

This event is free of charge. Click here to register.

About the Programme

With Hong Kong’s rapidly ‘super-ageing’ population, the social demand for elderly care, carer support, end-of-life care, and post-death arrangements has become increasingly pressing. To encourage the public to proactively explore and plan for different stages of life, and to foster a deeper understanding of life and death, The Hong Kong Council of Social Service will collaborate with cross-sector partners to present the ‘Compassionate Festival 2026’ from 16 October to 29 November 2026.

The festival aims to bring together stakeholders from across sectors to promote life and death education and life planning. Through a series of community activities, it seeks to empower people to live every stage of life with dignity, understanding, and compassion.

Some of the events under this initiative are subvented by the Community Chest, including the ‘Slow Looking Tour: From Art to Self’.
