Young People Meet-Up:
Intaglio Voyage

This workshop is for participants aged 18 to 24. Please bring valid ID.

Artist Zao Wou-Ki was captivated by the unpredictable nature of printmaking. In the exhibition Zao Wou-Ki: Master Printmaker, many of his vibrant print works use etching techniques, transforming his inner world into abstract landscapes.

Inspired by the exhibition, artist Cheung Tsz Ki, who focuses on capturing the subtle movements of light and shadow in intaglio printmaking, will guide participants in understanding the basic techniques of etching. Participants will transform travel photos into abstract landscapes, creating a print that serves as a visual diary of the journey, exploring the possibilities of etching techniques.

An M+ Educator and Cheung Tsz Ki will also guide participants through the exhibition Zao Wou-Ki: Master Printmaker, focusing on the artist’s printmaking practices and his spirit of continuous exploration and experimentation in printmaking.

The Young People Meet-Up series encourages young people to explore and exchange their perspectives of the everyday through regular workshops, conversations, and talks.

About the Instructor

Cheung Tsz-ki graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2018, and MA Multi-disciplinary Printmaking, UWE Bristol in 2023. Through art making he practices seeing; passively observing the negated subject-glances once settled on clouds far away, tides long gone. These remnants are printed as a language on paper, fragments of descriptions which represent the embodiment of the fixed gaze. He has participated in exhibitions at Royal West of England Academy Annual Exhibition and Hong Kong Heritage Museum and so forth.
