銅板上，有60至70口深啡色嘅釘，同30至40個釘孔，佢哋不規則咁分布喺板上。啲釘釘入銅板嘅深度不一，露出板面嘅部分有高有低；釘入嘅角度亦唔一致，大部分都打斜釘入，釘頭或者會彎曲。銅板下方中央裝有金屬鍊，條鍊另一邊連住一把銅製錘仔手柄嘅末端。錘仔呈深沉嘅黃銅色，錘頭其中一邊方方正正，另一邊扁身呈錐形。錘仔手柄上打橫刻有作品名Painting to Hammer a Nail In。
