About the Programme
A decade in the making and filmed around the world, La Flor composes a ‘flower’ through six distinct episodes, each starring the same four actresses, over a span of fourteen hours. Abounding with subplots and digressions, it transforms from a B-horror movie to a musical to a spy thriller to a category-defying metafiction–all without endings–to a silent remake of Jean Renoir’s French classic A Day in the Country and, finally, to an enigmatic period piece without a beginning.
An adventure in both scale and duration, La Flor is Mariano Llinás’s tribute to the history of cinema. With its creative reinvention of cinematic conventions and ambitious exploration of the possibilities of fiction, it liberates filmmaking from both duration norms and long-form narrative expectations.
The film will be screened in two parts, each with two intermissions.
