Prayer plates, known as puja thali, are ceremonial objects used in Hindu worship. Italian architect and designer Ettore Sottsass made a series comprising one hundred contemporary versions, each one unique. The project followed a trip to India during which he suffered a serious bout of malaria. Marking his return to good health, Sottsass dedicated his work to the god Shiva, who embodies destruction and regeneration.
