‘Dancer in the Mirror Field’:
Artist Talk with Ayoung Kim
Join us at M+ for the artist talk with Ayoung Kim on 4 Oct 2025. She will discuss the making of Dancer in the Mirror Field, the collaborative motion capture process, and her work with game engines and machine learning technologies.
Dancer in the Mirror Field is a work of speculative fiction that depicts an annual dance competition organised by a delivery service platform. Coordinated by a mysterious entity, the contest aims to identify the individual with the most optimised movements. The film explores the contemporary obsession with efficiency and the performative effects it has on bodies in the service of wider technological and economic forces.
In this talk, Ayoung Kim will discuss the making of Dancer in the Mirror Field, her collaborative motion capture process, and her work with game engines and machine learning technologies. She will be joined by her stunt choreographer, Cha-I Kim, who also worked on Squid Game. The discussion will be moderated by Sunny Cheung, M+ Curator of Design and Architecture. The talk will be held in English and Korean, with consecutive interpretation in English.
