M+’s 5th Anniversary
You + Me + Art + More
Five Years of Seeing Things Differently
Celebrate M+’s fifth anniversary with us this November!
Over the past five years, M+ has been collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting visual culture, bringing together you, me, art, and more. As Asia’s global museum of contemporary art, our mission remains clear: to add life to Hong Kong, add identity to Asia, and add missing perspectives to the global canon. As we mark this milestone, we reflect on half a decade of shared stories and look forward to expanding the boundaries of visual culture together.
Anniversary Programmes
We are thrilled to present our 5th Anniversary Special Programmes and invite you to experience a vibrant celebration of visual culture, through special tours, creative workshops, and inspiring performances.
We Send Music: The Recycled Orchestra of Cateura
Join us for an explanatory didactic concert presented by The Recycled Orchestra of Cateura and discover how sustainability can cultivate beautiful music. Directed by Argentinian environmental technician and musician Favio Chávez, the orchestra is formed by children and young people from the communities near the Cateura landfill in Asunción, Paraguay. The instruments they use are crafted by local artisans using discarded materials from the landfill.
Creative Workshop: Make Your Own Recycled Instrument
In this interactive workshop, use your creativity to transform discarded objects into one-of-a-kind instruments. Then play alongside members of The Recycled Orchestra and listen to their inspiring stories.
M+ 5th Anniversary Celebrations: In-Gallery Encounters
Join our special tours and pop-up chats led by the M+ team, Educators, Guides, and community collaborators to learn about objects and secret spots within M+ that hold a special place in their hearts.
Creative Workshop: Pinhole Cinema
Join us for a hands-on workshop where you will create your own DIY ‘Pinhole Cinema’ viewing box. Co-designed by Tokyo-based LENS and guided by M+ Educators, explore your surroundings through unique and surprising perspectives.
Drop-in Activity: Pixel Monster
Create your very own pixel monster! Co-designed by Stickyline and inspired by the Special Exhibition ‘Myths and Monsters: The Art of Fantasy in Asia’, this family-friendly activity sparks creativity.
M+ Restored Festival 2026
The M+ Restored Festival celebrates the achievements of M+’s landmark initiative to increase the visibility of Hong Kong’s rich cinematic heritage. Through a series of celebratory screenings, conversations with filmmakers, and film workshops, this capstone programme offers insight into the exciting world of film restoration and a global emergence of a new revival cinema culture. Supported by CHANEL, M+’s Major Partner.
M+ at Night: Five With Us
Toast to M+'s fifth anniversary at M+ at Night: Five With Us, featuring live performances by Cantopop band RubberBand and Goodnight Lillie, interactive experiences, and after-hours gallery access.
