Henry Steiner Project Archives 石漢瑞項目檔案

Henry Steiner, born in 1934 in Vienna, Austria, is an iconic figure in the visual culture of twentieth-century Hong Kong. After studying Fine Art at Hunter College and Graphic Design at Yale University in 1957, Steiner was greatly influenced by Paul Rand, who was a master of designing brand logos among American corporations in the 20th century. He later joined the New York office of The Asia Magazine and was assigned to its Hong Kong office in 1961, beginning his fascinating exploration of the newly transformed city in the Far East. In the following years, he participated in a series of branding projects for many well-established companies in Hong Kong, including British banks, firms, and newly erected buildings. These projects brought him and his works into the spotlight.

The Henry Steiner Project Archive consists of some 30 projects across a wide range of businesses. The clients and projects included The Asia Magazine, Asia Weekly, Asiaweek, Far Eastern Economic Review, and Sing Tao Newspaper Ltd. in publishing; Dah Sing Bank, Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Ltd., Search Asia, Search America and Standard Chartered Bank in financial service; Ambassador Hotel, The Excelsior Hotel, Hong Kong Air International Ltd., Hongkong Hilton Hotel, Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels Ltd, and The Peninsula Hotel in tourism; Dateline Discotheque, GoDown, and I Club in catering; Dairy Farm International Holdings, Duty Free, Joyce Boutique, Lane Crawford, Taikoo Sugar, and Textile Alliance Ltd. in commodity; Hongkong Land, Jardine House (Connaught Centre), Ocean Terminal, and The Peak Tower in land development and landmarks; and Hong Kong Telephone Co.
