Slow Looking Tour:
From Art to Self
Participants are recommended to wear comfortable clothing for walking around the museum.
Participants must hold valid General Admission or Special Exhibition tickets to join the tours. Tours are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please see ‘Event Arrangements’ below.
Visitors usually spend less than 20 seconds looking at a work of art. How about you? Join this tour to calm your mind and discover yourself through ‘slow looking’ and appreciating a selected work.
The tour is based on slow looking to provide an opportunity to appreciate and look deeply at a work of art. M+ Educators will guide you to slow down and allow awareness to come to the present. You will spend a prolonged period of time with a work, discovering and noticing subtle details. A different piece of work will be explored each time, giving participants a unique experience during every visit.
New insights may emerge. You may find your own thoughts and feelings and connect with lived experiences and memories. Appreciating art is a skill that can be learned and cultivated. In an open and welcoming space, share your perspectives and listen to others’ insights to discover the diverse ways to appreciate art. This dialogue deepens self-understanding while cultivating empathy.
The tours will be offered on a monthly basis with timeslots available on the weekends and one Friday evening. The tours will look at works from the M+ Sigg Collection: Another Story between April and June. If you prefer a calmer experience, we highly recommend participating in our Friday evening session. No previous experience in art or mindfulness is required.
