About the Programme

A trilogy of epic storytelling, Infernal Affairs is a modern classic of twenty-first-century Hong Kong cinema, and often compared to The Godfather. Twenty years after the film’s premiere, a new digital restoration offers audiences an opportunity to revisit this classic onscreen once again. Through this programme of screenings and post-screening talks, M+ Cinema will explore the inspiration behind the film, which is based on John Woo’s Face/Off; its subsequent adaptation into Martin Scorsese’s The Departed; and how the three individual Infernal Affairs films can be viewed as one unitary cinematic work. Directors Andrew Lau and Alan Mak, screenwriter Felix Chong, and film critics are invited to join three post-screening talks to share their stories about the trilogy and its remarkable influence.

In addition, the 'Infernal Affairs Trilogy Marathon' screening will project the original 35 mm film prints and will be accompanied by post-screening talks on the comparisons between the film and its digital versions.
