About the 2022 Summer Edition

In this 2022 Summer Edition, M+ Cinema presents three documentary films about a legendary photographer, a master architect, and a controversial film critic. The Past is Always New, the Future is Always Nostalgic is a biographical sketch of Japanese photographer Daido Moriyama—known as ‘the king of the street snapshot’—and a dramatic story about the ‘resurrection’ of his debut photo book, Japan, a Photo Theater, published in 1968. Aalto: Architect of Emotions adopts an intimate approach to examining the life of Finnish architect Alvar Aalto while acknowledging the vital contribution of his first wife, Aino Aalto, to his career.
